Jacob and Adam - 48 x 60 - oil on canvas
Jacob and Adam, which a friend more accessibly named Trouble in the Garden, is about the eternal state of conflict between
men and ultimately throughout the universe. Inspired by a personal though fleeting incident, it presents an image of mortal
combat even as both sides face nuclear annihilation. The inclusion of my own self-portrait in this painting can be read as
a symbol of transcendence, victimization, or just classical self-examination. This painting is the second version of this
theme which I painted in simpler form years earlier as the first in this series of very stylized work. As such it represents
my coming full circle in my ideas and the beginning of new possibilities and/or directions.
